The Benefits of hunting with a Silenced Weapon
Brandon Maddox
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM
Music City Center - Room 201 AB
Hunting with a silencer is more popular than it's ever been before. How did such a simple tool become a favorite of firearm and outdoor enthusiasts alike? It makes your hunt enjoyable, safe, and effective.
1) REDUCE RECOIL
• Silencers help minimize your anticipation of recoil, increasing accuracy even when you're shooting larger calibers.
2) HEAR YOUR SURROUNDINGS
• No need to fumble with earmuffs before your shot. Silencers let you enjoy the full outdoor experience and hear game, other hunters or nearby threats.
3) PROTECT HEARING
• Many hunters forgo hearing protection, making hearing loss a major issue. Silencers bring the sound of your shot down to a hearing-safe level for you and your hunting companions (including your dog).
4) DON'T DISTURB GAME
• Avoid scaring unseen game, and allow yourself and others in your group to keep hunting even after hitting your mark. And on the rare chance you miss a tough shot, you may even get a second chance.
Knife Sharpening and Choosing the Proper Knife
TOM CLAYCOMB III
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Music City Center - Room 208 B
I always say, 100% of the outdoorsmen use a knife and yet I bet less than 5% can sharpen one. Come to this seminar and we'll help demystify the concept on how to sharpen a knife. I teach Knife seminars from Texas to Alaska. Of equal importance is which knife to carry. There are a lot of weird knife designs on the market. In our outdoor world we can use 5 different designs. I'll teach you which design to look for to handle each outdoor task that you'll encounter. I've tested knives for most of the major knife companies and helped design a few as well. Not all knives are created equal!
Why Long-Range?
Dominic Pasquale
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Music City Center - Room 201 A
This is perhaps one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted concepts in the shooting industry. Just the term long-range comes with its own stigma for many. The Best of the West defines “long-range” as any target distance that requires the shooter to compensate in order to engage the target.
We know more today about bullets, rifles and environmental conditions than ever in history. By industry standards, a 1MOA hunting rifle is considered an accurate rifle by today standards. However, here lies the problem…The ability to compensate for wind is nearly impossible because the accuracy of the rifle is not adequate to replicate a precision shots. With a 1/2MOA accuracy hunting setup and a solid training foundation your ability to "seal" the deal on your trophy animal will greatly increase.

This seminar will present the planning and preparation steps necessary to ensure that everything is handled according to your wishes.

Hunting Big Game with Air Guns
TOM CLAYCOMB III
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Music City Center - Room 204
Airguns are the new rage and for a good reason. They're not as loud, they're a shorter-range weapon, and they're deadly. The modern airgun is not Little Ralphie's Red Ryder. The .50 calibers are real guns. More and more states are legalizing them for big game hunting. I'll cover the power sources for the three most popular types of airguns and which one you'll want to use for hunting. We'll also cover what pellets to use. Choosing the proper pellet is just as important as selecting the appropriate ammo for your big game rifle. The Air Sabre is also popular. It is an airgun that shoots arrows.

My talk will encompass nearly three decades of hunting and outfitting in the "Land Of The Bear," the nickname given to Russia because 2/3 of all the brown bears in the world live there! I'll start with the fear and trepidation of traveling to what President Reagan called the "Evil Empire." During my first year there in 1991, it was still the Soviet Union. Because the Russians didn't know if I was really a hunter or a CIA agent, I was shadowed everywhere I went those first few years by the KGB! I'll tell stories about bear encounters, bear attacks, and bear hunting. Lots of spine-tingling stories! I was the world's No. 1 brown bear outfitter for over 20 years. We once had over 60 bears in the top 100 listed in the SCI Record Book. Hopefully, we will be back there chasing bears again soon! I'll also talk about what's going on there right now and what my outfitters think about it!
